Preview: Comedy at Whitley Bay Playhouse in 2015
Since its re-opening in 2009, the Whitley Bay Playhouse’s comedy programming has gone from strength to strength.
Following a two-year long, several million pound refurbishment, the 600+ seater venue continues to bring big-name comedy tours to the coastal resort, as well as hosting shows and performers cultivated in the local community.
As well as welcoming back a host of comedy legends such as Freddie Starr, Ken Dodd and Basil Brush, the Playhouse’s comedy programme for 2015 will see a number of cutting edge comics and telly favourites grace the seaside stage.
Here are a few highlights you can catch in the coming months:
Tim Vine: Tim Timinee Tim Timinee Tim Tim To You, Wednesday 8 April 2015
Tim Vine pops down to the coast for his first stand-up tour in 4 years, bringing his usual bag of puns, jokes, silly songs and twitchy dancing. Fancy putting the satire on ice for a night, and watching a grown man act the goat? This might just be for you. Pun-cetric, fast-paced and very, very funny. Look out Whitley Bay; nonsense ahoy. Support comes from comedy magician, and Stage Magician of the Year winner John Archer.
Rich Hall: 3:10 to Humor, Saturday 9 May 2015
Master of dead-pan, lord of grouch, and America’s finest export since spray-on cheese, Rich Hall is back with brand new show 3:10 to Humour. Hall’s sharp-shooting, grumbling indignation, and acerbic observations have won his fans around the globe, with his recent foray into documentary making bagging him numerous awards. A familiar face on UK television, Hall is arguably best known for his appearances on QI, Live At The Apollo, and Have I Got News For You. His jaunt at the Playhouse Whitley Bay is his only date in Tyne and Wear, so don’t drag your heels.
Gavin Webster, Friday 20 November 2015
Geordie comic Gavin Webster makes his Playhouse debut in November. The local favourite, who was recently named the UK Circuit Comedian of the Year 2014 in a vote by 187 of his fellow acts, has been performing his hard-edged routines for two decades, and has made numerous appearances on TV comedy shows such as Never Mind The Buzzcocks and Walk On The Wildside.
