The Stand releases Edinburgh Fringe allocation
The Stand Comedy Club has released its ticket allocation for the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe.
Now in their 19th year, The Stand’s 2014 programme features some of the festival’s big-hitters including Stewart Lee road-testing new material, 2013 Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Bridget Christie, Tony Law, Lucy Porter, Phill Jupitus and Simon Munnery.
The comedy club are also moving into St Andrew Square Garden this summer.
‘Stand in the Square’ is based in a 150 seater Mongolian yurt with a line-up of comedy and spoken word, including Martin Mor’s Funny Stuff For Happy People kids’ show, Mary Bourke’s female-only showcase Funny For A Grrl, and the festival’s only Egyptian comedy show, Falafel, Houmous and Baba Ganoush
Unlike anywhere else on the Fringe, where venues can cost acts up to £9000, all shows at The Stand are produced and financially underwritten by the venue.
Director Tommy Sheppard said: “We’re proud to be at the heart of the Fringe – and we’re proud that no comedian has ever lost money at the Stand during the Fringe.
“By keeping ticket prices down and artists’ costs low we’re defending innovation and experiment that keeps the spirit of the Fringe alive.”
