Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival 2015: Win VIP tickets
Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival is to return on 4 February.
The festival, now in its 22nd year, is on course for its biggest year yet, with over 50 venues hosting hundreds of shows across 19 days.
In partnership with TV channel Dave, the festival will host big name comics such as Milton Jones, Dylan Moran, Simon Amstell, Stewart Lee and Jimmy Carr, along with festival favourites like Mark Watson, Nina Conti, Josie Long and Nick Helm.
There’s also a selection of up-and-comers to discover Sara Pascoe, James Acaster, Joe Lycett, Lucy Beaumont, Luisa Omielan, as well as last year’s Edinburgh Comedy Award winners Alex Edelman and Funz And Gamez.
A number of exclusive one-off events are also being programmed for the event, including A Tribute to Sir Norman Wisdom, an exhibition dedicated to the festival’s original patron, which also marks Wisdom’s 100th birthday.
Also new this year is Euroversity Challenge, a new quiz show presented by Dave, which sees a team of international comedians battling it out for the Cleverest Nation in Europe crown.
Returning shows include Hotel D’Comedie, and Comedy in the Dark; the festival’s own creation in which comedians perform in the dark, and are forced to rely on voice alone to extract laughs.
The festival also hosts several competitive events, such as Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year; a prominent new act competition with previous finalists including Josh Widdicombe, Seann Walsh, Johnny Vegas, Jason Manford and Rhod Gilbert.
There’s also a chance for older comics to bag an award with the 55+ only Silver Stand-Up Competition, the UK Pun Championships with Lee Nelson, and a charity gala.
Festival director Geoff Rowe said: “Our 2015 festival is going to make the lure of Leicester in February even stronger for comedy fans across the UK. There are so many brilliant acts coming to the festival, audiences will be spoilt for choice.
“This year is packed full of top stand-ups and unique events, which you simply can’t see anywhere else.”
