Yep, no record of it before the 1860s. Weird that isn’t it? It feels like a word that has always been around.
People go on about Shaekespeare* being a genius ‘cos he invented loads of words but he couldn’t even think of one as comparatively workaday as hello. Fucking idiot.
*I didn’t spell Shakespeare wrong then. He spelled it loads of different ways.
