This week, the first Leeds Comedy Festival will be bringing stand-up and sketch to the city centre.

From Saturday 23 and running until to Friday 29 of May, the festival will welcome a host of household names and up-and-coming stars to The Wardrobe in the city’s Cultural Quarter.

Opening this year’s festival is Tony Jameson, with his Edinburgh Festival show Football Manager Ruined My Life, followed by a double-header with Tom Stade, of Live At The Apollo, 8 Out Of 10 Cats, and Mock The Week fame, and Mick Ferry, best known for his appearances on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow and Edinburgh Panel Prize winning show Funz and Gamez. Saturday’s programme will be closed by Storage Hunters presenter Sean Kelly.

Sunday 24 will see a double-bill from Edinburgh Best Newcomer Award Nominees Gein’s Family Giftshop and David Trent, followed by Nick Helm, star of BBC Three’s Uncle, while Jason Cook and Chris Ramsey’s Titting About, and Robin Ince take the stage on Monday 25.

Alfie Moore performs a live version of his Radio 4 show It’s a Fair Cop Tuesday 26, and on Wednesday 27, there’s a double-bill with Justin Moorhouse and Alun Cochrane. Another double-header of brand-new preview shows takes place on Thursday 28, with Joe Lycett and Carl Hutchinson.

Finally, on Friday 29, the festival comes to a close with the foremost team of black comedy promoters in the country Upfront Comedy Jam.
