Entries open for The Great Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year
Entries are now open for The Great Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year 2015.
Heats will run throughout next year’s Great Yorkshire Fringe, from 24 July to 1 August, with the final taking place on the last day of the festival, 2 August.
The winning contestant will bag the opportunity to perform at London’s Leicester Square Theatre, plus the coveted Golden Pudding Award and £500 cash. Second place runner-up will take home £250, with £150 allocated for third place.
The competition is open to any non-professional act that has been performing for five years or less. Entries from character acts, musical acts and sketch groups are welcome, the only rule being that contestants must stick to five minutes of original material.
Anne Taylor, spokesperson for The Great Yorkshire Fringe, said: “Yorkshire is full of funny folk, and I know that we’ll have a blast seeing all the heats, culminating in the live final. The London competitions have launched the careers of some great names, and The Great Yorkshire Fringe New Comedian of the Year 2015 competition will be no different!”
The Great Yorkshire Fringe will see the city’s Parliament Street transformed into a performance space, with venues promising entertainment for young and old alike, with bars and stalls serving food and drink from the region. Four purpose built venues, seating from 60 – 400 people -The White Rose Rotunda, The Barm Pot, The Turn Pot and The Tea Pot – will house most of the festival’s shows.
Acts already announced for next year’s Great Yorkshire Fringe include Stick Man, Henning Wehn, The Supreme Fabulettes, and Just Like That! The Tommy Cooper Show.
Entries are on a first come first served basis and entrants must be available for a heat at 5.30pm between 24 July and 1 August 2015, and the final on 2 August 2015. Click here to enter and for full terms and conditions.
