The cast of Channel 4 sitcom Fresh Meat are touring universities across the UK this week – to help raise cash for Red Nose Day.

Jack Whitehall, Joe Thomas and Kimberley Nixon, whose series scooped Best TV Show at the NME Awards last night, will visit Durham, Leeds, Manchester, Sheffield and Nottingham University tomorrow.

The cast will take part in a variety of challenges to raise the money, from lecturing to making breakfast for students at the redbrick universities.

Whitehall said: “It’s going to be great travelling to all the different universities I didn’t get into when I applied through UCAS.

“Some of the best parts about being a student are the ridiculous things you end up doing.”

Highlights will be shown on BBC One on Red Nose Day, Friday 15 March.

Dozens of comics have attached themselves to this year’s fundraising effort, including stand-up Sarah Millian and Miranda Hart.

As Giggle Beats reported on Monday, Millican is helping to raise £1m with the help of her Twitter followers, asking each of them to collect £50 through sponsorship.

And Hart, who embarks on her first-ever stand-up tour next year, will attempt a series of “madcap challenges” for Comic Relief.

She will race against the clock in a different UK city each day for five days to complete the mystery tasks.

Hart will start in Newcastle on 11 March, followed by Manchester, Birmingham, Oxford and then London on Red Nose Day.

Hart said: “This year for Red Nose Day, I will be doing … something!

“I have absolutely no idea what, I just hope that the good people at Comic Relief aren’t too hard on me and that the British public get behind me and help me raise heaps of cash for Red Nose Day!”
