The Stand have today unveiled plans for the UK’s biggest student discount on comedy tickets.

From November, students in Newcastle, Edinburgh and Glasgow will be able to enjoy comedy for less than the price of a sandwich, with concession tickets for all standard shows – that’s Sunday to Thursday – priced at just £2.

The scheme, to be rolled out at all three of The Stand’s venues, means students could save up to 80% on tickets, with the biggest saving on a Thursday night.

The Stand director Tommy Sheppard said: “In these cash strapped times, money isn’t academic.

“We feel that it’s important that the latest generation of live comedy fans are able to afford to come and see in the flesh, live and direct.

“Student life is an exciting time, full of hope and opportunity, and The Stand are giving students the opportunity to experience some of the best names in comedy cheaper than anywhere else.”

The Stand is the only comedy club in Newcastle to open every night of the week, with a programme of contemporary stand-up, sketches and touring shows.

The club has helped launch the careers of Kevin Bridges, Susan Calman, Daniel Sloss and Frankie Boyle (pictured) amongst others.
