Gavin Webster has been hosting a weekly show at The Stand since the comedy club opened on Tyneside in October 2011 – but that residency will come to an end next month.

The Geordie comedian has announced that The Gavin Webster Comedy Show on Monday 2 June will be his last at the High Bridge venue after both parties agreed to call it a day.

Writing on his blog, he said: “It never really worked out will be the short line but hopefully I’ll move on and so will The Stand. It’s time to give someone else a chance.”

Webster added: “I’m not sure about any kind of replacement as of yet or whether I might carry on somewhere else with something else.

“It’s all a little up in the air and, with the fact that I’m doing a Radio 4 show soon and have an Edinburgh show to write, as well as a show in October to do in Newcastle, time isn’t on my side at the moment.

“I will say though that I’m not the type to stay quiet and something will come your way, of that I am very sure.”

The final Gavin Webster Comedy Show takes place at The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle on Monday 2 June. Tickets are £6, £5 for concessions or £1 for Stand Together members. Click to buy.
