Team Pelham! Jonny prepares for BBC New Comedy Awards final

Newcastle’s Jonathan Pelham is gearing up for tonight’s final of the BBC New Comedy Awards.

Pelham, who finished runner-up in So You Think You’re Funny? 2012, got through to the tonight’s London final following a semi-final at Birmingham’s Glee Club with judges including Miles Jupp and Gary Delaney.

Pelham, who performed at May’s inaugural Giggle Beats Comedy Quiz, said: “The awards have been an amazing opportunity for me and to get to the final is incredible.”

The winner of the 2013 BBC Radio New Comedy Award will receive £1000, development advice and guidance from the BBC Comedy Department and the chance for a commission from BBC Radio Comedy.

Previous winners include Rhod Gilbert, Marcus Brigstocke, Josie Long, Paul Foot and Alan Carr, while runner-ups have included Danielle Ward, Russell Howard and Justin Moorhouse.

The final of the BBC Radio New Comedy Award 2013 will be broadcast live tonight on BBC Radio 2 at 8pm, with the results announced in a special show 10pm. Voting opens at 9pm, and you can vote for Jonny Pelham here.
