Roisin Conaty bags sitcom
Roisin Conaty is to write and star in her own sitcom.
Following the success of its 2014 pilot, Game Face has been commissioned for a full series by E4.
Written by and starring Conaty, the series centres on Marcella, who despite her optimism can’t quite get her life on track.
The well-received pilot saw Marcella attempting to turn her life around on her birthday; a day that, via a series of disasters, eventually finds her at her old school delivering a speech about her highly successful (and entirely made up) career.
The 6×30 series will follow Marcella as she tries to navigate the changing landscape of her 30s, all the while reflecting the absurdity and inanity of modern life.
Conaty said: “Writing narrative comedy has always been a dream of mine and I was so pleased with the response to the Game Face pilot. Now it’s got a full series I’m giddy about having the chance to explore the world and characters in more detail.”
Rachel Springett, C4 Comedy Commissioning Editor added: “Roisin is a phenomenally talented writer and performer with a unique voice, and it’s been a real privilege to work with her since her 2010 Edinburgh Newcomer win, through from her original online Blaps, two acclaimed series of Man Down, and now her own much anticipated sitcom.”
