Richard Herring and Craig Campbell have been announced as the comedy headliners at this year’s Stockton Weekender festival.

The comedy heavyweights will be stopping off in the North East on the last weekend of July to play a set at Stockton’s premier music and arts bash.

Herring will play the Wunderbar Tent on Saturday 27 July, while Campbell tops the bill at the Cabaret stage on Sunday 28 July, the festival has confirmed.

Herring has been a force to be reckoned with on the comedy scene for 20 years now, boasting ten national tours, thirteen Edinburgh Festival stints, eight DVD releases, five TV series, eight radio shows and countless comedy panel show appearances.

And Campbell’s credits include a support slot on Frankie Boyle’s last two sell-out national tours, as well as performances on Dave’s One Night Stand (Dave), Russell Howard’s Good News (BBC Three) and Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow (BBC One).

Speaking exclusively to Giggle Beats, the Canadian comic said: “I’m looking forward to working with the stable of awesome acts from that neck o’the woods who always seem to punch above their weight every time they sniff the mic.

“Can’t wait and I’ll have my fingers crossed for great weather as I’ll be bringing the beast (motorbike)!”

Craig will be taking a night off from the Return of The Lumberjacks tour, which sees Campbell join up with fellow Canadians Stewart Francis and Glenn Wool.

The Lumberjacks are playing various dates across the UK this spring, taking in Durham, York, Leeds, amongst others throughout May, and again in September.

Campbell will then be returning to the UK in Autumn as part of his own UK tour, kicking off at Kirkcaldy on 14 November and ending with a show at London’s Bloomsbury Theatre on 3 December.

Herring, meanwhile, heads to Stockton with a preview of his new Edinburgh Fringe show, We’re All Going To Die.
