Pattison is next comedy quiz kid
One of the North East’s rising stars is to make a guest appearance at Giggle Beats’ next comedy quiz night.
Comedian Lauren Pattison, a former Giggle Beats New Act of the Month, will perform a short set upstairs at The Hancock pub in Newcastle on 1 July, following the popular pub quiz.
She follows in the footsteps of Jonathan Pelham and John Whale, who played the night in May and June respectively.
Pattison, a Performance student at Northumbria University, said: “I absolutely love doing comedy.
“I’ve found such a passion for it and every gig I do makes me want to be able to do it for a living just that little bit more.
“Being at [university] while doing comedy is a massive godsend; it’s given me loads of new material and ideas for stuff to develop.
“My degree really helps me with my comedy – I’m quite good now at putting on quite a calm and confident act on stage when really I’m shitting myself and so nervous I’m trying not to throw up on the front row.”
Lauren decided she wanted to do stand-up at the age of 14.
A year later, she signed up for a comedy course with the Live Theatre, where she was tutored by comedian John Scott before performing her first gig.
Pattison admits that the course, an increasingly popular route into the industry, “gave [her] such an appetite for comedy.”
“Learning first hand off an actual comedian how to write and craft your act at just 15 was a pretty good opportunity,” she said.
When Lauren was 18 – and old enough to get into comedy clubs – she began pursuing stand-up as a career, and entered national comedy competition So You Think You’re Funny?
She reached the semi-finals.
Later that year she ‘Beat the Gong’ at Stockon Arc, planting her firmly on the radar of comedy promoters throughout the North East. Pattison won another gong show earlier this month, this time in Nottingham.
She cites Sarah Millican, Chris Ramsey and Russell Howard as influences.

Sponsors The Stand Comedy Club and the Comedy Advertising Network provide the prizes – including a £25 bar tab, comedy tickets, DVDs and loads more.
