Paddy McGuinness cast in new ITV sitcom
Phoenix Nights star lands role in The Delivery Man.
Paddy McGuinness is set to return to comedy acting with a part in new ITV sitcom The Delivery Man.
The six-part series, starring Spy’s Darren Boyd, focuses on Matthew, a policeman who becomes so disillusioned with his job that he quits to become a male midwife, working in a busy maternity ward.
The series also stars Cold Feet’s Fay Ripley, as the tough senior midwife Caitlain; Trollied’s Aisling Bea, Hunderby’s Alex Macqueen and Ab Fab’s Llewella Gideon.
McGuinness has been cast in the role of Ian, best friend of Boyd’s character.
The Delivery Man was written by Rob Harley and James Henry, and is being produced by Victoria Pile, and most of the production team who also worked on hit comedy drama Green Wing.
Paddy McGuinness is perhaps now better known as a presenter, but his rise to fame was via Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, where he starred as one half of bouncer duo, Max and Paddy.
Phoenix Nights is rumoured to be returning, after Peter Kay announced at a charity Q&A session: “I am going to be making a big announcement about Phoenix Nights sometime in the next 10 days so fans need to be watching out for that.”
The Delivery Man will air in 2015, alongside ITV’s returning comedies, Benidorm, Birds of a Feather and Vicious.
