ComedySportz goes home
Improv group ComedySportz are returning to their original home for a special birthday show this week.
The group will play Chorley Little Theatre on Saturday 21 November to mark their 14th birthday.
ComedySportz UK started life at the theater as ComedySportz Chorley before moving to Chorley Football Club. As the ComedySportz family grew the show moved to Manchester and now enjoys regular shows across the North West. However, every year the troupe of comedians returns home to Chorley to celebrate its birthday.
The show still has 5 of its original Chorley members who have all remained active members of Chorley Little Theatre and has featured local talent throughout its life.
“We started with the ethos that comedy should be for everyone and our all ages show will entertain kids, parents and grandparents alike,” said Brainne Edge, ComedySportz UK founder and manager. “Audience suggestions and volunteers are a big part of the fun but don’t worry if you’re shy, just come along and prepare to laugh!”
The show pits two teams battling it out for laughs as players create quick-witted sketches, scenes and songs from whatever suggestions are thrown at them by the audience. It’s a family friendly show that’s fast, feel good and always unpredictably funny. There’s a referee on hand to steer the entertainment, call any fouls and help the audience decide the winner.
The group have performed all over the world and teach regular workshops for all ages. “We’ve taught in schools, we’ve taken the show to Edinburgh, we’ve performed in theatres, pubs and even a swimming pool!” said Brainne.
“It’s comedy as a sport not comedy about sports, and the fans can be just as passionate,” adds Rachel Wareing, who has been a member of ComedySportz UK since its inception. “We have performed across the country and as far afield as America but it’s always a highlight of our year to bring the show back home!”
Tickets are £6 and can be purchased from Malcolm’s Musicland or www.chorleytheatre.com.
