Stand-up stars head to Durham

Durham’s Gala Theatre have confirmed a stellar line-up of comedy for the coming months. We’ve trawled through the programme to give you five recommendations for the new season…
Jeremy Hardy, Saturday 25 October, 8.00pm, £14, £5 concessions
Jeremy has been a stand-up comic since 1984 and will be one until he dies… or wins the lottery. He best known for his work on Radio 4, notably on News Quiz, I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue and Jeremy Hardy Speaks to the Nation. In 2010, he published a book, My Family and Other Strangers, chronicling his desperate search for interesting ancestors.
Andy Zaltzman: Satirist For Hire, Friday 31 October, 8.00pm, £12
The British-based half of the global hit topical podcast The Bugle, takes his uniquely interactive new show on the road, giving audiences the chance to have the issues they care about satirised to order by one of Britain’s leading political comedians. Whether a general grumble or a specific bleat, audience members are invited to send in their satirico-queries HERE in advance. Andy will butter their political hot potato to order, and then serve it back to them at the show of their choosing.

Marcus Brigstocke: Je M’accuse (I Am Marcus), Tuesday 11 November, 8.00pm, £15
Podium dancer, oil rig worker, food addict, musical theatre enthusiast, posh, eco-hypocrite, ex-Goth, muppet fan, award winning comedian and chief beverages operator at the Little Chef – screw politics, let’s talk about Marcus.
Henning Wehn: Eins, Zwei, DIY, Wednesday 12 November, 8.00pm, £14.50
After more than a decade in Britain, the German Comedy Ambassador has ‘groan’ to like puns… though he still couldn’t eat a whole one. As Henning’s assimilation is not yet complete he hasn’t lost his sense of wonderment at the foibles of British society. Why does everybody want to be owned by a house? What’s wrong with having the Euro? And why hold society and government responsible for personal underachievement… you’ve only got yourself to blame for not being born into a better social class. Expect an evening-long crash course in personal accountability and have a right old laugh at the same time. Wunderbar.
