Newcastle sketch group Hot Gulp are to make their live debut in the city tomorrow night.

The trio – who you might recognise from this Sainsbury’s Christmas advert parody – will be joined by their stand-up chums for an evening of comedy at The Cumberland Arms, Byker, on Friday 31 July.

Hot Gulp have curated an evening of comedy featuring some of their best comedy creations and characters along with support from Whale and Mantalios-Lovett.

There’ll be videos, live bands, stand up from local acts John Whale and Nicola Mantalios-Lovett and to top it off, the much anticipated live sketch debut from Hot Gulp themselves.

Members Sean, Hal and Paddy  told Giggle Beats: “After achieving nearly 500,000 hits on YouTube for our parody of the Sainsbury’s Christmas advert, it really is time Hot Gulp came out from in front of the cameras and performed in front of a live audience.

“We’re excited, confident and terrified respectively.”

Hot Gulp are Newcastle based comedians whose work has been screened at festivals and comedy nights all over the country. They are multi-award runners up and plan to take a full-length show to the Edinburgh Fringe next year.

With funding received from Channel 4’s Alpha Fund, they have recently been working with script editor Andrew Ellard (The It Crowd / Cardinal Burns / Red Dwarf) to develop a sitcom that they’re planning to shoot a pilot for in October.

Hot Gulp & Friends, The Cumberland Arms, Byker, Friday 31 July, 8.30pm, £5/£4 concessions. Tickets are available on the door.
