Comedian, writer and activist Mark Thomas is to make his Barnard Castle debut this spring with his brand new show.

Picking up where his previous show 100 Acts of Minor Dissent left off, Thomas brings his new show Trespass to The Witham on Saturday 16 April.

Trespass asks the question: If the ramblers of the 1930’s were here now what would they do to open up the cities? How do we turn the skyscrapers and corporate squares into our playgrounds?

Setting out to try and claw back a small space in the urban world where mischief and random chance can lurk, Thomas rails against the carving up and selling off of Britain in this hilarious, inspiring and eye-opening new show.

One of the country’s most highly-regarded political comedians, Thomas has been amusing and educating audiences for almost 30 years, and has bagged himself a Perrier Award Nomination and a Time Out award in the process.

Beginning his career on Radio 1’s The Mary Whitehouse Experience, Thomas went on to write and star in The Mark Thomas Comedy Product, which ran on Channel 4 for six series. His television work also includes a number of Dispatches programmes, and appearances on Have I Got News for You.

As lauded for his front-line activism as he is for his comedy, Thomas’s career as an campaigner makes him a uniquely fascinating performer. From going undercover to shed light on the corporate arms trade, and publicly shaming loophole-flouting politicians, to breaking the Guinness World Record for Most Number of Political Demonstrations in 24 Hours, Thomas is known for turning his innovative adventures into informative, hilarious shows.

Peter Dixon, of promoters Funny Way To Be, said: “Mark Thomas’s shows are always a wonderfully odd mix of theatre, stand-up and activism, with a dash of journalism, and a big dollop of mayhem.”

Mark Thomas: Trespass: The Witham, Barnard Castle, Saturday 16 April, 8pm. Tickets available online and from The Witham box office.
