It’s candles and cake at Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt this autumn – as Big Mouth Comedy Club celebrates its fifth birthday with a bang.

The Teesside comedy club have announced a charity gala for Sunday 29 September to celebrate its big day.

Phoenix Nights’ Justin Moorhouse, Sunderland stand-up Matt Reed and Hebburn creator Jason Cook will join the festivities, the club announced today.

Cook compered Big Mouth’s first night in 2008.

And, despite his commitments with series two of the BBC2 sitcom, he will host the club’s bash in September.

Organiser Peter Vincent said: “I can’t believe it’ll be five years in September since our first Big Mouth.

“That first night just seems like yesterday, but we’ve had some absolutely amazing nights in that time.

“We’re chuffed to bits [Jason’s] agreed to come back and join us for this special night.

“He’s had an amazing couple of years and is just about to start filming the second series of Hebburn, so we’re thrilled that he’s taking the time to do this for us.”

More names will be announced over the coming weeks, with all profits from the night benefiting The South Cleveland Heart Fund and teenage cancer charity Butterfly Giving.

Rob Guest, of Middlesbrough Town Hall, said: “The comedy programme at the Town Hall has been incredible over the last few years, and Big Mouth has been right at the heart of that really.

“This is going to be a great way to mark Big Mouth’s fifth birthday.

Two great local charities are going to benefit, and it’s going to be a night to remember all round.”

The Big Mouth Comedy Gala is at Middlesbrough Town Hall Crypt on Sunday 29 September. Early-bird tickets are £15.00 until 30 August. £17.00 thereafter. Click for more information.
