Kendal Calling comedy line-up revealed…
Kendal Calling have announced the full comedy line-up for this year’s festival, with Duncan Oakley, Phil Ellis and Danny Pensive among those set to perform at Lowther Deer Park, Cumbria, in July.
Musical comedian Oakley is back for a second year running after proving a big hit at last year’s festival; Ellis will compere the stand-up in the Soapbox Tent; while Pensive is set for an hour-lon spot at Kendal Calling – opening up the possibility for Fringe preview shows in future years.
Pensive, the creation of Sunderland comic John Cooper, announced the news: “I have bought a tent. I will be bringing my tent to three festivals of the summer, where I will be discovering new places and listening to music that is played live and not on the radio.
“At Kendal Calling I will be doing a thing on Sunday 29th July, just after 10pm. I am also going to watch Maximo Park, who I first heard on a cassette in a friend’s car, and who are from Newcastle, and also The Lancashire Hotpots, who sing jolly songs and dress in a practical way.”
Kendal Calling’s comedy kicks off daily at 6pm, with former winners of the Frog and Bucket’s gong show, Beat the Frog, each doing ten minutes of material. Then, as the night progresses, so does the experience level of the acts. Jolly Boat, who won the Musical Comedy Awards last year, are set for a half-hour spot on the bill, while the likes of Michael J Dolan, Chris Brooker and Mark Rough will all perform too.
Speaking before the announcement this morning, Laughing Gas promoter Joseph Greenwood told Giggle Beats: “We want to create a tent where people can come, relax and laugh – a haven for people. Alongside that, we’re looking to book some fantastic, eclectic acts to get the festival party going into the early hours. It’s looking great.”
The festival, which will take place from Friday 27th July until Sunday 29st July, enters its seventh year this summer and showcases a variety of music, spoken word and performing arts.
