Hebburn creator Jason Cook will come to the North East bearing gifts this winter – as the sitcom star curates a special Christmas show in Barnard Castle.

Working in partnership with Funny Way To Be, Cook will programme and host the club’s final show of the year at the newly-refurbished Witham Hall on Saturday 14 December.

Fast Show star John Thompson made a surprise appearance at Cook’s last …and Friends show in May.

And more “huge names” are expected to appear in Barnard Castle this winter.

Peter Dixon, of Funny Way To Be, said: “The small number of previous …and Friends shows that Jason has done have been amazing – and completely sold out in much bigger venues than ours.

“People are still talking about the few previous Jason Cook and Friends and this one looks like it might top that.

“One of the things Jason wanted for …and Friends was to get huge names to come and play the gigs. But because they are also doing tours, we are not allowed to give you the headliner’s name.

“You’ll find out on the night, but trust us, you won’t be disappointed.”

Peter added: “They are an incredible addition to the bill and you will be at work on the Monday saying, ‘You will never guess who we saw at the Witham on Saturday.’”

Cook is currently putting the finishing touches on season two of Hebburn.

The second installment of the BBC2 sitcom will air this winter, in line with Jason’s appearance in Barnard Castle.

Jason Cook and Friends come to the Witham Hall, Barnard Castle, on Saturday 14 December. Tickets are £12, and available from the Funny Way To Be website.
