More details have emerged about Vic Reeves and Bob Mortimer’s new studio sitcom, House of Fools.

Set in Bob Mortimer’s home, each episode sees Bob frustrated by uninvited lodgers who disrupt his humble abode, including long-term unwanted guest Vic (Jim Moir), next door neighbour Julie (Morgana Robinson), lady-obsessed lothario Beef (Matt Berry), and Bosh (Dan Skinner), Vic’s fresh-out-of-prison brother from Newcastle.

The six-part sitcom comprises six episodes – The Conan Affair, The Pork Pie Affair, The Probation Affair, The Wig Affair,  The Ghost Affair and The Birthday Affair – and will air on BBC2 next year.

Mortimer said: “We wanted to take on the challenge of a studio sitcom which is one of the few comedy genres we have not attempted. A house full of idiots seemed the easiest setting. We can write idiots quite well.

“Performing in front of an audience gives you an extra 10% energy and the chance to react to the instant feedback. Having an audience in the studio makes you perform rather than just act.”

Mortimer also confirmed that Reece Shearsmith (League of Gentlemen, Psychoville) will make an appearance in House of Fools, having appeared alongside Reeves and Mortimer in their last sitcom, Catterick.

And actors Frank Harper and Nikki Amuka-Bird will also make cameo appearances.

Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning, said: “Vic and Bob are the daddies of daft comedy and it’s a total joy to watch two men in their 50s goof about so gloriously. I’m extremely proud to bring them back to the BBC in this hilarious reincarnation.”

House Of Fools is a BBC in-house production in association with Pett Productions, produced by Lisa Clark and executive produced by Mark Freeland.
