Hitchhiker’s Live tour cancelled
The remaining dates of the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy Radio Show Live UK tour have been cancelled with immediate effect.
The tour, which started in London in September, was scheduled to tour around the UK until November, including Preston, Leeds, York, and Hull.
However, producers announced today that it was difficult to cover the operating costs, and they “have had no option but make the extremely hard and painful decision to stop the tour.”
The stage show featured many of the cast of the original radio show, first broadcast on BBC Radio 4 in 1978, including Simon Jones as Arthur Dent, Geoff McGivern as Ford Prefect, and Susan Sheridan as Trillian.
Different special guests appeared at different venues as the ‘voice of the book’, with names such as John Lloyd, Clive Anderson and Anita Dobson.
Colin Baker and Jon Culshaw were scheduled to appear in Leeds and Hull.
The tour also featured Mitch Benn as Zaphod Beeblebrox, a role originally played by Mark Wing-Davey.
Responding to the official announcement, Benn told his Twitter followers: “Massive apologies to anyone who had tix for #hitchhikerslive; it’s no consolation, I know, but you’re not as gutted as we are.”
Ticket holders will be contacted by venues, producers report, and issued with refunds.
