Entries are now open for the annual Scottish Comedian of the Year award. Beginning on Saturday 23rd July at the State Bar in Glasgow, the competition, ran by Ha Ha Comedy & HireAComedian.co.uk, is open to all Scottish comedians no matter their experience or status in stand-up.

Heats for SCOTY will be held at venues across Scotland from late July to early September. Three semi finals will be held in mid September – this year SCOTY is introducing judges to the latter rounds – and the final will take place at the Glasgow’s Pavilion Theatre on Sunday 25th September with Raymond Mearns compering.

As far as the prize is concerned, the winner receives £1500, the Banana Boots Trophy and a show at a Just The Tonic venue during 2012 Edinburgh Fringe; second prize is £500; and third place receives £100. All three will also be involved in the Best of Scottish Comedian of the Year showcase tour.

Last year’s winner, Ro Campbell, has since played across Europe on tours with Tom Stade and Edinburgh Comedy Award winner Russell Kane.
