Dapper Laughs cancels his live tour of the UK
Comedian admits: "It was a type of comedy that I should not have been doing. Dapper Laughs is gone."
After being axed by ITV2 yesterday, Dapper Laughs has pulled his planned live tour of the UK.
The controversial comedian – real name Daniel O’Reilly – has cancelled all 12 of his live dates, including shows at The Ritz in Manchester and the O2 Academy venues in Newcastle, Leeds and Liverpool.
And speaking to Newsnight, O’Reilly confirmed that not only has Full Length tour been cancelled, but – following a widespread backlash against his ‘laddish’ comedy – he is retiring the Dapper Laughs ‘character’ for good.
O’Reilly said: “It was a type of comedy that I should not have been doing. Dapper Laughs is gone.”
Footage emerged yesterday of O’Reilly telling an audience member at one of his shows: “She’s gagging for a rape. Yep, we’ll have a chat afterwards… Do you want to come backstage after? Bring two of your mates, you’ll need ‘em.”
Over 50,000 people signed a petition calling for ITV2 to axe his show, Dapper Laughs: On The Pull.
