Comedian Jo Brand is set for a return to the North East this Autumn to help raise money for rape victims on Tyneside.

Brand, who was the guest speaker at the South Shields Lecture earlier this year, will play a one-off gig this September in aid of the Tyneside Rape Crisis Centre, who provide information, support and counseling to women who have experienced sexual violence.

The show will take place on Friday 21st September at the Tyne Theatre and also features South Shields stand-up Sarah Millican, who has offered her time to help the cause.

Millican, whose BBC2 show was recently given the green light for a second series, said: “I am thrilled to be doing a benefit gig for the Rape Crisis Centre in Newcastle as they do such good work on Tyneside and deserve our support. It is vital that resources like this never disappear.

“Jo Brand has always been an inspiration to me and really paved the way for women on the comedy circuit. I’m really looking forward to working with her again. She is both hilarious and bloody lovely.”

She added: “We’re going to have a cracking night. And for a brilliant cause, too.”

Tickets for the show at the Tyne Theatre will go on sale tomorrow at 10am, priced at £40.50 (including booking fee.) To purchase tickets, see ticketmaster.co.uk, or call the booking hotline on 0844 493 9999.
