BBC New Comedy Awards: Jonathan Pelham wins Manchester heat
Jonathan Pelham has won the second Manchester heat in the BBC New Comedy Awards.
Pelham, who finished runner-up in So You Think You’re Funny? 2012, saw off competition from nine other budding stand-ups at the Manchester Comedy Store on Wednesday night.
The former Giggle Beats New Act of the Month won over judges – including BBC Comedy producer Alison Vernon Smith, comedian Howard Read and Chortle editor Steve Bennett – with his deft, self-deprecating script.
Pelham joins heat one winner Peter Brush in the next round of the competition.
The winner of the 2013 BBC Radio New Comedy Award will receive £1000, development advice and guidance from the BBC Comedy Department and the chance for a commission from BBC Radio Comedy.
Previous winners include Marcus Brigstocke, Josie Long, Paul Foot and Alan Carr.
