Alfie Joey will host the Giggle Beats Comedy Quiz when it returns to The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle on Sunday 2 February.

Sitcom star Alfie, best known for his roles in BBC hits Ideal and Hebburn, will take the reins at the Giggle Beats Comedy Quiz for one night only in Seymour Mace’s absence.

Speaking to Giggle Beats ahead of the show, the comedian and BBC Newcastle presenter said he was delighted to combine two of his passions; comedy and trivia.

Alfie said: “‘The Stand is the best place in the North East to try out new, exciting comedy ideas.

“It’s been open for a year or two now but still feels like a new, fresh venue – and it will stay fresh if it keeps putting on new sketch shows and concept ideas like Mr. Drayton’s Dinner Date, Steffen Peddie’s Chat Show Thing, Sod The Tories and the Giggle Beats Comedy Quiz.”

He added: “Two of my passions are comedy and trivia so I can’t wait to sit in for Seymour for the comedy quiz. See you there!”

February’s show, which combines stand-up with the traditional pub quiz format, will be headlined by Lee Ridley, a.k.a Lost Voice Guy.

He said: “I love performing at The Stand, I love Giggle Beats and I’ve loved quizzes ever since my nana forced me to watch Going For Gold every afternoon when I was younger – so it should be fun to combine the three!”

Doors open at 6.30pm, and the quiz starts at 7pm.

Prizes include a three-course meal for two at The Stand bistro, tickets for the best comedy shows in Newcastle, comedy DVDs courtesy of Baby Cow Productions and Channel X, and more.

Tickets are £2.
