There are a lot of things to joke about in life. Parents, politicians, penises…but life insurance doesn’t generally top the list.

However in a surprising twist, Robert Web – who recently concluded the eight series of Peep Show – has taken on a new acting role, this time as Maurice Wigglethorpe-Throom, founder of comparethemarket.com.

Here’s the newest installment in the Webb-starred series of ads that the brand has produced:

Webb’s latest work comes as he and comedy pal David Mitchell join forces once more in the political satire, Our Men.

Set in the fictional country of Tazbekistan – with Mitchell as the country’s British ambassador – Our Men is, according to Webb a serious drama that includes ‘a dollop of comedy’.

However Webb has added that, like the ad above, Our Men will be a distinctive move away from his hit series Peep Show…

Peep Show: Best Bits

The show might have slowed down over the past few years, but it can still be relied upon to produce at least a few pained, bum-clenching laughs.

To celebrate eight seasons of awesome, Hilary Wardle picks out her top moments from the series. Read.

Robert Webb makes insurance funny? Robert Webb makes everything funny. With his rich ironic baritone and eyebrow raising turn on the movies mistakes show on BBC 3, his, ‘look everyone, we’re all in on this joke, apart from the poor sap I’m deriding’ turn on everything else, Robert really is a man for our times. Alongside comedy genius David Walliams, the world of mirth and humour would be a cold empty vacuum, if it wasn’t for Robert and his great talents. I love the fact that he’s taken the kings shilling for yet another advert, as I personally can’t get enough of him.
