Preview: Punch-Drunk Comedy Christmas Special
As December 25th draws ever closer, a number of North East venues are hosting their annual xmas gigs, Punch-Drunk Comedy being no different. If you’re looking for some Cramlington comedy this Christmas then you really have no other choice than to come to Concordia Leisure Centre on Sunday December 19th and witness local lad Kai Humphries host a triple headliner bill of Nick Doody, Dave Longley and Jason Cook for just £15 a pop.
MC Kai Humphries is a recognisable face to any live comedy lovers based in the North East. Relatively new act Humphries has quickly risen through the ranks with his childlike charm and accessible material, performing his first full Edinburgh festival run this year with his show ‘Evolution.’ He is returning to his home grown gig on Sunday to compere this festive offering.
Opening act Nick Doody is a regular writer for comedy productions on BBC Radio 4, has been featured on The World Stands Up for the Paramount channel and has hosted comedy podcast Doubling Up with fellow comic Rob Heeney. Doody has also supported American comic Bill Hicks and like his idol has been described as a dangerous comedian for his topical material.
Dave Longley’s cutting edge and thought provoking comedy is accessible yet he still tackles tricky issues, likely to go down well with a rowdy festive Cramlington audience. Longley is a previous runner up of the Leicester Mercury Comedian of The Year and reached the final in the internationally recognisable So You Think You’re Funny new act competition.
Headline act for the evening is the North East’s very own Jason Cook. Cook’s material and genuinely hilarious real life anecdotes are a joy to behold. there is barely a finer comedian working today, in my opinion. Cook performed his solo show ‘The End Part 1’ to critical acclaim at this year’s Edinburgh festival and is currently touring with it, briefly stopping in Northumberland this Sunday to entertain the people of Cramlington.
Tickets for this Christmas Comedy Extravaganza are priced at £15 and can be purchased from Concordia Leisure Centre’s reception or you can get in touch with Kai Humphries via the facebook group, details of which are here.
