Preview: Gavin Webster – The Journal Tyne Theatre, Newcastle
Tonight local legend Gavin Webster is bringing his one date tour to Newcastle’s Journal Tyne Theatre, with support from rising star Andy Fury. Webster supported Kevin Bridges on his last tour, which included a date at the Tyne, and has kicked it up a gear to perform this one off date in the 1,100 capacity theatre after successfully performing short runs at Newcastle’s intimate Live Theatre these past few years.
Fans of Webster will know that his unique Geordie humour has forged him a name among the comedy literate as a regional treasure to his native North East; and his material and songs exemplifying traditional and often stereotypical Tyneside behaviour always goes down a treat with a home audience.
Support comes from Andy Fury, who has received much praise and recommendation, some of it coming from this very site, for his progression and quality of material, especially in the last year or so. Fury, an act with just a few years of experience under his belt, has developed a unique style and has formed quality routines in recent times that would have you believe they came from the mind of an act with far more many years of stand up under their belt.
So, what can you expect if you attend Gavin Webster’s show at the Tyne Theatre tonight? Well, I’d definitely bank on Webster squeezing all the comedy he can out of Tyneside and the area; as well as performing his trademark comedy songs; and those long and brilliantly thought out routines, such as the typical high street routine with which he closed last years’ solo show.
Gavin Webster is performing live at The Journal Tyne Theatre tonight, Friday 5th March, tickets are priced at £13 (£11 concs). Tickets and more information can be found here.
