The Stand Comedy Club opens in Newcastle on Thursday 27th October

The Stand Comedy Club has announced their Newcastle venue will open on Thursday 27th October – with tickets for shows on sale now.

Work is well advanced on construction of the Newcastle Stand in High Bridge, and for the last six weeks contractors have been hard at work building a state of the art venue in the basement of the former industrial building.

Comedy will run six nights a week initially with big name shows featuring on Tuesdays – the likes of Rory Bremner, Mark Watson, Patrick Monahan and Craig Campbell perform in the first season – the Red Raw beginners’ night, which will feature up and coming acts from the North East, on a Wednesday; while weekend bills will offer prime stand up with five acts on a two hour show.

The 300 capacity venue, situated just off Grey Street in Newcastle city centre, is aimed at 30+ comedy fans and, like their Edinburgh and Glasgow rooms, will have a ban on stag and hen parties at the weekend. Alongside the main performance space in the basement there’s also a ground floor bar/restaurant open all day, which will serve as a box office, too.

A full list of their line-ups from now until early next year has been revealed, with highlights including Gavin Webster’s Northumbrian Assembly (which runs on Sunday nights), Frankie Boyle’s appearance on Tuesday 6th December and the arrival of Johnny Vegas’ in 2012.
