Jason Manford has been confirmed as the special guest headliner at the Big Mouth Comedy Gala at Middlesbrough Town Hall on Sunday 30 October.

Manford’s autobiography, Brung Up Proper, was published last month to glowing reviews, and he’s just embarked on a major UK arena tour. But he will be going back to his club roots with a 20-minute set for the Gala, and joins a line-up featuring ten of the club’s favourite comics.

The show will be held together by Big Mouth’s three resident comperes – Jason Cook, who has just recorded his BBC pilot Hebburn; Matt Reed; and Danny McLoughlin. They will be introducing the likes of Rob Rouse, Chris Ramsey, multi-award winner The Boy With Tape on His Face, Martin Bigpig, Dan Nightingale, Barry Dodds & Andy Fury.

All profits raised on the night will go to Middlesbrough Council’s official charity – the Yorkshire Regiment Benevolent Fund, and Big Mouth nominees Zoe’s Baby Hospice in Normanby.

The eagerly anticipated gig celebrates the third birthday of Middlesbrough’s hugely popular Big Mouth Comedy Club, which launched with the world’s smallest gig in one of the classic red phone boxes outside Middlesbrough Town Hall three years ago. It has grown into arguably the best night in the North East.

Ten Feet Tall promoter Peter Vincent said: “This is the first time we’ve held a Charity Gala, and we wanted to make this a really special night. We’ve cherry picked the best bits from the last three years, looked at what people loved and who went down best on stage, and now we’ve put them into one bumper line-up. And it goes without saying that we were punching the air when Jason jumped at the chance to play.”

Jason Manford said: “I’ve known Peter for years and always enjoyed working with him. So I jumped at the chance to be part of this, especially for two great causes like Zoe’s Place and the Yorkshire Regiment.

“I had a fantastic welcome when I played the Town Hall for a couple of nights last summer, so I’m really looking forward to coming back to Boro for what looks like an absolutely fantastic gig.”

Mark Guidery, Chief Executive of Zoe’s Place, said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been chosen as one of the two beneficiaries of the Big Mouth Comedy Gala, and we’re just pinching ourselves thinking about how good this night is going to be.”

Colour Sergeant Geoff Dawson of the Yorkshire Regiment added: “Big Mouth is always a great night out – and this looks set to top the lot. We’re absolutely thrilled to be part of this, and very grateful for the boost our benevolent fund for soldiers and their families will receive.”
