The Stand Comedy Club

The Newcastle Stand, Tyneside’s first ever purpose built, full time comedy club opens its doors to the public this evening.

And to co-incide with the venue opening, The Stand are initiating a registration drive, where local residents will be the given the opportunity to come and see a show completely free of charge.

It’s as simple as visiting their website here, filling in your email address and postcode and choosing which show you wish to attend.

The High Bridge venue, just a few minutes’ walk from Monument Station, has already announced its opening season line-up, with the likes of Phill Jupitus, light-footed satirist Rory Bremner, Mark Watson and Frankie Boyle set to make appearances.

Tonight’s opening line up features Tony Jameson, Viz magazine founder Simon Donald, Mary Bourke and, fresh from his successful Fringe run, headliner Carl Donnelly. Fred MacAulay will headline the same bill on Friday and Saturday, with Stand favourite Martin Mor taking the reigns as compere.
