An Edinburgh Comedy Award winner is coming to the North East this weekend.

Comedian Daniel Simonsen, who won Best Newcomer for his 2012 Edinburgh show Champions, has been signed up for Funny Way To Be’s comedy night on Saturday 16 March.

The Norwegian comic, a former So You Think You’re Funny winner, will be joined by Iain Sterling, Alfie Brown and Pat Cahill, all of whom are making their first appearances at the Parish Hall, Barnard Castle.

In an interview with Giggle Beats earlier this year, Pat said: “The furthest north I’ve been for a gig – apart from Edinburgh – is Harrogate!

“I’m not that familiar with the North East to be honest, but I’m doing the gig with Daniel Simonsen and Alfie Brown who I know very well.

“I’ve known Daniel for a couple of years now and he’s just getting better and better. Lovely chap too.

“I was sharing a flat with Daniel when he won the Best Newcomer at Edinburgh [in 2012] and it was just great news because it was a cracking show.”

Both Simonsen and Cahill have been nominated for Best Breakthrough Act in the 2013 Chortle Awards. The winner will be announced next week, after their performances in Barnard Castle.

The show starts at 8pm.

Tickets are available online at funnywaytobe.com, at the Information Point at Woodleigh and the Old Well Inn in Barnard Castle.  More information is available on 01833 650930.
