What a year. Thanks to comedian Jason Cook, us Geordies finally got our own sitcom – and it was an absolute cracker. Elsewhere, Jimmy Carr didn’t pay his taxes, Frankie Boyle said something nasty (probably), Giggle Beats were featured in The Guardian (aye, that one), and, as the Mayans predicted, the world came to an end. Hold on…

Since we’ve had such a canny 12 months, we’ve decided to compile a list of our 12 most-read articles this year, excluding our Christmas giveaway, in no particular order. Thanks for reading.

#1 Miranda Hart announces 2014 stand-up tour

We don’t usually watch The One Show, but on this night we were glad we did. Earlier this month Miranda Hart revealed that she was going on tour in 2014, we stuck an article up and half an hour later our site nearly crashed. She’s a popular lady, Miss Hart. Read.

#2 Hebburn given a full series on BBC2

Back in February, Hebburn was given the green light by the BBC’s top dogs – and we were the first to share the news. Read.

At a show in Newcastle earlier this month, creator Jason Cook hinted that the show, partially filmed in the North East, had been given a second series on BBC2. Keep checking Giggle Beats in the coming weeks, however, as we’ll have all the news as it happens.

#3 Peacock and Gamble interview

These two are quite simply two of our favourite comics at the moment – so we were proper chuffed to hear we’d nabbed an interview with them. Read.

Ray and Ed are back in Durham – where they met – in March; we suggest you buy tickets and get excited.

#4 Tiffany Stevenson: “We’re losing personality and we’re losing history.”

From silly to serious; Tiffany Stevenson chats to Andrew Dipper about her comedy, life after Show Me The Funny and getting old. Read.

#5 An interview with Stuart Goldsmith

Another contestant on ITV’s talent search, Stuart speaks to Rachel Pronger about what gets him going. Read.

#6 Sarah Millican boycotts Sunderland Empire

Sarah doesn’t like the way ATG treat their customers – so she’s boycotted their theatres. Good on her. Read.

#7 Jimmy Carr caught up in tax avoidance row

Jimmy doesn’t pay his taxes – and you like reading about that, apparently. Read.

#8 Adam Bloom interview

This one’s probably our favourite piece from this year – and definitely one for the comedy geeks. Here, Adam dissects what it means to be a comedian, how he writes his material and tells Peter Dixon why he doesn’t like magicians. Read.

#9 A review of BBC Three’s online pilots

Ian Wolf takes a look at BBC Three’s online comedies – including our favourite show this year, Impractical Jokers. Read.

#10 The Road to Hebburn

After a special preview screening in Stockton, Andrew Dipper writes some words about North East sitcom Hebburn. Read.

#11  Robin Ince speaks to Giggle Beats

Rachel Pronger pulls another corker out of the bag – as she interviews Robin Ince. Read.

#12 Jo Brand interview

We jumped through hoops and all sorts to get you this interview – so we were delighted to see you flocked to read Jo’s craic. Keep doing that and, rest assured, we’ll keep writing for you. Read.

All the best for 2013.
