An Edinburgh Comedy Award winner is coming to the North East this spring.

Comedian Daniel Simonsen, who won Best Newcomer for his 2012 show Champions, has been signed up for Funny Way To Be’s comedy night on Saturday 16 March.

The Norwegian comic, a former So You Think You’re Funny winner, will be joined by Pat Cahill and Alfie Brown, both of whom are making their first appearances at the Parish Hall, Barnard Castle.

Funny Way To Be also announced this afternoon that Phil Cool, who is retiring from comedy next year, will travel to Teesdale on Saturday 27th April for his Final Curtain tour.

And comedian Andrew Lawrence is also lined up to play the club in 2013.

Organiser Peter Dixon said: “We’re thrilled to be bringing Phil [Cool] to the North East as part of this very important tour.

“Most of the other dates [on the tour] are theatres he’s performed at earlier in his career, so it’s extra special that he was able to include us in the itinerary.”

Dixon added: “Our aim has always been to bring top quality comedians to our rural venue.

“We’ve always tried to vary the type of shows we put on to make sure that throughout a season we have something for everyone.

“In the early part of 2013 we have a mix of rising talent, one of the UK’s best loved comics on his last ever tour and a critically acclaimed stand-up comedian who has just finished a sell-out fifty date tour. I can’t wait.”

Tickets for all Funny Way To Be shows are available online at funnywaytobe.com, at the Information Point at Woodleigh and the Old Well Inn in Barnard Castle.  More information is available on 01833 650930.
