Tickled Pig launches 2012/2013 student comedy competition…
Tickled Pig’s annual hunt for the funniest student in Britain returns next week with the launch of their 2012/2013 competition.
Entering its sixth year this winter, the talent search offers students from across the country the chance to win £250 in prize money, as well as future paid work from Tickled Pig.
And this year’s competition kicks off on Sunday 18th November, with a show at The Library bar in Leeds.
Organiser Robbie Ormrod said: “I’ve been running Tickled Pig as a production company for six years. It actually all started at Leeds University. And part of what the company does is a stand-up comedy competition for students.
“For each heat we have up to 8 student comedians doing 7-8 minutes of material to a panel of judges, who are from the industry and the student bodies involved.
“Comics like Max Dickins, Laura Carruthers and Callum Scott have all won the competition before – and Sam Gore was a finalist a few years back – so I’d say the standard’s pretty high.”
As well as the show in Leeds, heats will take place in Nottingham (21st Nov), Southampton (22nd), Leicester (23rd), Birmingham (24th) and London, before the winners – and best runners-up – return to the capital for the final in late 2013.
Ormrod added: “Not only will the winner receive the cash prize, but they’ll get to gig alongside the likes of Tony Law, Nish Kumar and Ben Target too, who are all playing our new London night soon.”
Giggle Beats editor Andrew Dipper is one of the judges for this year’s competition.
