Hebburn

Last Thursday, the Stockton Arts Centre held a special advance screening of the new BBC2 sitcom, Hebburn. During the event, the first two episodes were shown and an hour-long Q&A session followed – which was interesting to say the least!

Giggle Beats were given exclusive access to film and report on the night, nabbing some juicy interviews with executive producer Matt Tiller, Hebburn creator Jason Cook (Ramsey), comedian Steffen Peddie (Big Keith) and Curtis Appleby (Hutchy) amongst others. And with a little help from our friends at KYEO.TV,  we’ll be showing you all of our footage over the next week or so.

For now, though, here’s a taster video of what’s to come:

In case you weren’t listening to the slightly wired Jason Cook, here’s a reminder: Hebburn airs tomorrow night at 10pm.

The six-part series, which also stars Gina McKee, Jim Moir and Fresh Meat’s Kimberley Nixon, tells the story of the Pearson family and their son Jack, played by Chris Ramsey.

After secretly hitching Jewish girl Sarah in Las Vegas, Jack reluctantly introduces her to his parents, Joe and Pauline – while trying to keep their marriage a secret. The first episode takes off from there, as Jack comes to grips with life back in Hebburn.

Speaking to Giggle Beats earlier this year, Cook said: “There is a very particular sense of humour in the Geordies. We don’t take ourselves too seriously, and we have a way of handling bad news – maybe because we get a lot of it – so I’m hoping to show the nation that with Hebburn.

“We’ve had such a great team working on the show, and I’ve worked with some of my comedy heroes, too; so the pressure is on to not let them, or the people of the North East, down.”

He added: “I just hope people like it. It shows the good and bad of the Geordie people. It’s a proper rollercoaster, but everyone who has seen it so far has loved it.”
