The Grinning Idiot announce autumn dates…
Unscathed from month-long runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, Dan Nightingale, Lewis Schaffer and Martin Mor will front The Grinning Idiot’s comedy line-up this autumn.
Ran by promoter John Smith, the North East club announced their new season of comedy this afternoon, with the trio leading a series of shows at top pubs, theatres and hotels across the region.
Nightingale, whose Fringe show earned him a four star review from Giggle Beats, will join Justin Moorhouse for two shows on Saturday 8th September; first at the Theatre Royal, Newcastle and then later at the Customs House, South Shields.
Schaffer brings his Free Until Famous show to Caedmon Hall, Gateshead on Friday 16th November.
And later in the month Mor, who also received a four star write-up from Giggle Beats, travels to Infinity Bar, Sunderland, before a performance at the Customs House on Saturday 1st December.
Promoter John Smith said: “I think after four years I’m closer to making this work financially than I have ever been – but it’s definitely getting harder to find an audience. We’ve got some great line-ups this Autumn, though, and fingers crossed it all goes well.
“We have a couple of new venues too, which is promising. I didn’t even know the Theatre Royal’s Studio Room existed until recently, so that’s definitely an exciting one for us.”
Fresh from completing BBC2 sitcom Hebburn, Jason Cook is also set for a return to the region on Friday 5th October for a show at the Grand Hotel, Tynemouth. And up-and-coming talents Peter Brush, Paul Brett and former New Acts of the Month Jonathan Pelham and Lee Kyle also feature in The Grinning Idiot’s new season of comedy.
Smith added: “They’re all funny and original acts. Hopefully a couple of them will make it big and prove that the North East is the hottest talent pool of new acts in the UK.”
