Organisers announce comedy line-up for Split Festival 2011
Split Festival organisers have announced the comedy line-up for this year’s event at Ashbrooke Sports Club in Sunderland.
Hebburn comedian Jason Cook, who recently appeared on Russell Howard’s Good News, will headline the Fringe Tent on Sunday 18th September, while Andy Fury, Tony Jameson, Nick Cranston, Marc Smethurst, Richard Gadd and Giggle Beats New Act of the Year 2010 Lee Kyle will also perform.
Comedy programmer Tony Jameson said: “This year at Split we’ve got a great mix of new acts, established local stars and a fantastic circuit headliner. In Marc [Smethurst] and Richard [Gadd] we’ve got acts who have been going for about a year, so to give them the chance to play the festival is a fantastic opportunity for them. Andy and Nick have played both previous festivals before and they jumped at the chance to perform again.
“And in Jason, I think we’ve managed to secure one of the best circuit headliners, which will surely raise the profile of the Split Festival. Given that he’s a local lad as well, it’s brilliant being able to get him to headline the show and really put the comedy tent on the map.”
Split Festival enters its third year in 2011, with music acts The Drums and The Charlatans announced as this year’s headliners on the main stage. Comedy, acoustic and spoken word can be found in the Fringe Tent, while organisers promise a VIP experience for all.
Split Festival 2011 takes place on Saturday 17th September and Sunday 18th September 2011 at Ashbrooke Sports Club in Sunderland. Early Bird tickets can be purchased (until 31st August) at £20 for a day or £35 for a full weekend ticket here. Further information on the festival can be found at SplitFestival.com.
