Lake District Comedy Festival returns
The Lakes Comedy Festival is set to storm Cumbria next month, with comedy acts and stand-ups appearing in venues across the region.
Television favourites Jon Richardson (the latest team captain on C4’s 8 Out Of 10 Cats) and Lucy Porter are amongst the main attractions of the event, which is now in its second year.
Predominantly taking place in Keswick, The Lakes Comedy Festival runs from 1st to the 18th of July and sees Richardson, Porter and others, including James Redmond of Casualty fame, appearing at the town’s Alhambra theatre.
The Alhambra will also be presenting a special “Geordie Night” on July 9th with Viz founder Simon Donald and Seymour Mace from BBC3 sitcom Ideal appearing.
Other festival venues in the town include the Theatre By The Lake, which plays host to Barry and Stuart, winners of the World Magic Awards Best Comedy Illusionists and stars of BBC One’s The Magicians.
Festival Organiser, Shona the Bad Sheep, said: “We’re back with a bang – new and expanded for our second year. Continuing support from Keswick BID, as well as our new sponsor Cumbrian Cottages means we can bring top acts off the TV and live circuit to Keswick and the North Lakes.”
Away from Keswick, shows such as Stripped and Frisky and Mannish will take place at the Penrith Playhouse and Whitehaven’s Rosehill respectively,
Dr Joshua Box, festival co-ordinator added: “We hope this years Festival will launch Keswick and the North Lakes as a regular stop on the comedy circuit. We have more acts planned across the autumn and winter. The Lakes aren’t just about Walking and Wainwright.”
