Live stand-up comedy returns to Newcastle’s Bottle Shop Bar and Kitchen next month with a headline appearance from Patrick Monahan.

The winner of ITV’s Show Me The Funny will headline the next show on Wednesday 6 April, with support from Lauren Pattison.

The craft beer venue recently announced it would host a series of new comedy nights on Tyneside.

The Bottle Shop, on Waterloo Square in the city centre, has confirmed three shows featuring a series of award-winning comics, TV names and radio stars.

Audience favourite Monahan is well-known for his uber-friendly, high-energy style and engaging topical and observational material.

A veteran entertainer, Monahan has been bringing his cheery comedy to audiences around the world since 2002. The Middlesborough-raised, Irish-Iranian comic took first place in ITV’s stand-up contest Show Me the Funny in 2011.

The following year, he appeared on BBC1’s Let’s Dance for Sport Relief, while in 2014 he took part in ITV celebrity diving show Splash!.

An ever popular MC, last year Monahan was crowned the UK’s Hardest Working Comedian in 2015, having gigged in more venues than any other comic.

Monahan is currently touring his latest show The Disco Years around the UK. Inspired by Monahan’s memories of being an immigrant to Great Britain, The Disco Years is a laugh out loud show that is at once thoughtful and clever, and brilliantly silly.

A relative newcomer to the circuit, and also one of the fastest rising, Lauren Pattison came runner-up at the Funny Women Awards 2014, and in 2015 was the only female comedian to reach the final of the Chortle Student Comedy Awards and English Comedian Of The Year.

Since then Lauren has gone on to support Katherine Ryan on several tour dates, and opened for Stewart Francis. A regular on the North-East circuit, this baby-faced comic is one to watch out for.

The first show took place on Wednesday 2 March and featured appearances from two BBC New Comedy Award winners – 2013 winner Steve Bugeja and 2014 winner Lost Voice Guy.

Mike Morley, general manager of The Bottle Shop, said: “After a fantastic sell-out show in March we’re delighted to welcome Patrick Monahan and Lauren Pattison to the Bottle Shop Bar & Kitchen.

“Pat’s got a fantastic pedigree as one of the UK’s best stand-up comics, and mainly plays theatres and arts centres, so it’s a real coup.

“Lauren’s a rising star in comedy who’s currently writing her debut show. You can expect big things from her in the coming years.”

Tickets are on sale now, priced £5.

The show starts at 7.30pm, doors open at 6pm.
