Eddie Izzard is to return to the improv format that helped launch his career for a one-off show.

One Word Improv will celebrate its 20th anniversary at the Palace Theatre in London’s West End on Friday 12 February.

Izzard will be joined by original members and longtime improvisers Stephen Frost, Suki Webster and Neil Mullarkey for the show, in which the performers create improvised sketches from one-word audience suggestions.

The group took the show all over the country, as well as several stops in Europe, before enjoying a sell-out run at the Albery Theatre in 1997.

Of the show, Mullarkey said: “We would simply take one word from the audience and start improvising. It might last ten minutes or ten seconds, we never knew in advance.

“Then we would take another word and so on. It was great fun, especially in the West End where we managed to regularly smash up the furniture on stage.”

Tickets for the show are available here.
