Roy Chubby Brown to appear at Stadium of Light
Roy “Chubby” Brown is to make a rare out-of-character appearance at Sunderland’s Stadium of Light next month.
The comic will appear under his real name for An Evening With Royston Vasey on Thursday 18 February.
The event will see Vasey discuss his controversial career before taking questions from the audience.
The Middleborough-born comic, who has made a career out of unsavoury and politically incorrect gags, stated last year that he would not release any more DVDs, admitting that after 25 previous releases, his “day has passed”.
However, despite a battle with throat cancer that resulted in the removal of one of his vocal chords, Vasey has no plans to retire from touring.
Vasey said: “Sunderland is like a second home to me. I have been filling the Sunderland Empire for 20 years and must have played every pub and club in the city, but never the Stadium of Light.
“I don’t want to spoil the show too much but I can tell you that I’ll be sharing secrets about some of the showbiz people I’ve worked with over the years and how I went from a tough upbringing to selling a million DVDs a year.
“I will also be answering audience questions like how many pies I ate, why I wear a patchwork suit and why I turned down the jungle for half a million quid”.
Tickets for the event are £35, including three-course meal and a welcome drink on arrival.
