Alfie Joey and comedy partner Cal Halbert are to join Laffalang’s Summer Extravaganza in South Shields.

Halbert and Joey, who perform together as The Mimic Men, will present the comedy variety show on Friday 24 July, with Halbert hosting the second show on Saturday 25 July solo.

Best known as the host of BBC Newcastle’s breakfast radio show, Joey has also appeared in sitcoms Ideal and Hebburn, while impressionist Halbert was featured on Britain’s Got Talent.

The show, which takes place at South Shields’ Westovian Theatre, will comprise of a series of comedy sketches, penned by local playwright Ed Waugh.

Laffalang producer Gareth Hunter said: “Alfie and Cal are brilliant. I’ve seen them several times and they are a perfect fit for the Laffalang shows: zany and very, very funny.

“They will link the 15 or so sketches written by Ed Waugh, so anyone coming to the show will experience some of the best comedy in the North East this summer.”

Alfie Joey said: “The Laffalang has gained a fantastic reputation and we are delighted to be part of the team.

“I’ve known Ed for a number of years and he’s finally got round to asking me to perform on the show!”

Gareth added: “We keep the ticket price to only £10 so that people feel they have had a great night for less than they would normally pay and we ask them to contribute at the end to Breast Cancer Campaign.”
