Sketch group Gein’s Family Giftshop are to record a series of one-off radio specials next month – and you can be there for free.

The foursome, who were nominated for Best Newcomer at the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards for their debut show last year, will record the shows at University of Salford’s Robert Powell Theatre on 8 and 15 July.

The series for BBC Wales will consist of three distinct episodes to be aired later in the year.

Gein’s Family Giftshop told Giggle Beats: “We are very excited about this, but it is safe to say that we are equally shitting our knickers about it as well. One of the main things we need for it to be good is an audience that will laugh their sacks off so that we sound funnier than we actually are.”

The recordings fall shortly before the group returns to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival with their new show, Volume 2. Since their highly-lauded stint at last summer’s festival, Gein’s Family Giftshop have continued to gain acclaim for their warped, macabre sketches, and recently nabbed the Best Newcomer gong at 2015’s Chortle Awards.

The troupe made their television debut earlier this year, with a guest spot on Inside No.9; the project of League of Gentleman alumni Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, who also landed their first radio show with the BBC following an commended Edinburgh show.
