Jesterval 2014: 5 paid shows you really ought to see
The North East’s largest comedy festival, Jesterval, is back for a second year at Gateshead Quays, and is full to its comedy brim with amazing acts. Here are five paid shows you really ought to see.
GAVIN WEBSTER: Controversial Title In Order To Sell Tickets, Friday 6 June, 6pm, £7.00
Last year’s full length Webster show at the Tyne Theatre was a marvel. Like watching The Fall fronted by Brian Johnson. Relentless and funny. Not trendy, no shiny suit, no observations. Jokes. Jokes by the shed load. Jokes.
LEE KYLE: An Idiot And His Stupid Friends, Saturday 7 June, 1.30pm, £2.
Lee Kyle is an idiot. His friends are idiots. He’s also a really charismatic, slightly camp and a joy to be around comedian. For two quid, you may as well have a laugh with Lee. And his idiots. Idiots.
JASON COOK: Broken, Saturday 7 June, 7.00pm, £7.50
There’s a lovable warmth and a sense of wonder when JC is on the stage. He’s been on the telly you know. That kind of thing turns peoples heads. Not Jason. As cool today as he’s always been. Cool.
DAVE JOHNS: Get Up Stand Up, Sunday 8 June, 5.30pm, £7.00
Formerly the UK’s No 1 Micky Hutton tribute act, Dave helped shape the NE comedy scene. Sean Lock says nice things about him. If he’s good enough for Sean, he’s good enough for you. Leary.
TONY LAW: Work In Progress, Tuesday 10 June, 9.15pm, £8
The only non-Geordie in this round up. Going into Law-World is a step worth taking. You might know know where you’ll end up, that’s OK though. You’ll be in safe, barmy, laugh out loud hands. Canadian.
