A world record for the number of gags told in an hour will be challenged next week – by an actuary!

Donald MacLeod,  head of actuarial for financial group Scottish Friendly, has never done stand-up before but on Wednesday will attempt to beat the world record for the most jokes told in an hour.

Previously held by Tim Vine, the current holder is Australian stand-up Anthony Lehmann (a.k.a Lehmo), who, in 2005, told 549 jokes in one hour.

Ahead of the charity record attempt, MacLeod said: “I’ve never done stand-up before and I’ll probably never do it again.

“[My jokes will come] from the very, very, bottom of the barrel – set your expectations low.”

All proceeds from the show, which takes place at The Park Bar in Glasgow, will be go to four Scottish charities: The Bethedsa Care Home and Hospice in Stornoway, Harris House in Tarbert, Tagsa Uibhist in Benbecula and Cobhair Bhrraigh in Castlebay.
