Melanie Hill returns home for talk about her career
Sunderland sitcom star Melanie Hill is set for a return to her hometown next week – for a talk about her career.
Hill, who recently appeared in the BBC Two sitcom Hebburn, will be discussing her life in front of the camera on Wednesday 5 March with broadcaster and BBC Look North presenter Jeff Brown at the University of Sunderland.
The pair, who went to school with each other in Sunderland and were presented with an honorary fellowship from the University of Sunderland on the same day in 2011, will be in conversation covering a variety of topics.
Melanie will discuss what life was like growing up in Sunderland before hitting the TV screen and Hollywood.
Her life on screen has seen her appear in Hebburn, Bread, Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Waterloo Road and in films Brassed Off, Stardust and White Girl.
Hill said: “I am looking forward to coming up to University of Sunderland to talk to the students and the public.
“It’s important to encourage young people to follow their dreams no matter what they choose to do, and by sharing my experiences honestly and listening to theirs I hope I can do just that.”
The talk will also see Hill talk about the differences working on major films compared to shows such as to Waterloo Road and her links to the North East. She will also take questions from the audience.
The talk starts at 6pm at the Sir Tom Cowie Lecture Theatre at St Peter’s at the University of Sunderland with doors opening at 5:30pm.
